Can't wait to try the latest fixed wing hotships
Reply Quote
When will this weather improve? I've been promised a couple of flights in the latest fixed-wing microlight hotships and can't wait! They sound terrific, with performance akin to a non-microlight aircraft, much cheaper running costs and the ability to get in and out of tiny strips.

Anyone else thinking of swapping over to microlights?

Why swap? - Fixed wing microlights can be flown on JAA PPL or NPPL so why not get the best of all worlds?.

Sorry Ian but I think you will find that the NPPL only covers the one class, i.e. class A or class D, you cannot cross over

A lot of microlights can be also in PPL A/JAR/NPPL territory with bigger engines/wings etc. The SkyArrow is a typical example - with metal wings it is in the BMAA microlight category, with Carbon/Kevlar wings it is in the PFA/ CAA licenced category. It is available with a Rotax 914 Turbo/3 Blade Constant Speed Prop both as a kit and certified.

Brian Johnson SkyArrow 650T Rotax 912 PFA kitbuilt Old Sarum G-BXGT

PS A lot of high performance Microlights [3 axis] prefer tarmac to grass as their wheels are too small for some farm strips. The low wing loading means airmanship has to be skilled to fly in high wind conditions. Some years ago David Cook and I rigged a CFM Streak Shadow in Cornwall with windspeeds of around 53 mph in the lee of the factory trailer. David flew a series of low passes over/by a camera helicopter for a TV Commercial. The take off run was about 6 feet! Landing was about 25 feet.

Nothing wrong with a well designed aeroplane in whatever category.

If you compare the MCR01 Club v the ULM. The Club is 4k cheaper, 10k faster and will lift 40kg more, MTOW 490kg v 450kg. The ULM has slightly better short field performance if you load both to MTOW, but that is marginal, so why go ULM?

Hi there, I think the 'Hotship Microlights' are the future, I have flown the C42, The CT2K, and the Eurostar, all were great but by far the best is the new WT9 Dynamic.
