Hi Dan,
Flying is not a cheap hobby unfortunately! Well done on solo on 8 hours too.
There are flying schools around that offer deals for PPL students. For example, Cabair recently had a deal with Hitachi Finance for PPL students. I'd suggest having a good trawl through the web sites of flying schools and ask them if they have any deals.
Good luck!

Hey, my names tom, i'm currently looking for a job to pay for my ppl but in the mean time i'm looking for flying schools and I keep reading that it costs about £4000 to complete the whole licence, i'm only 15 so it may take some time to raise that much!
I was just wondering if there are any student pilots or qualified pilots that could give me any information or if they could give me lessons! (I live in the north west of England)
I would also like to know if anybody could reccomend a decent flying school or club that I could train at.
Thanks a million
Tom.

Dan
I take it you have a day job, but it is not paying enough to finance your ambition....Well do what I did.
Get a second job and earn more money!!!
If that doesn't work then get a third one!!!
I know this sounds flipant, but it works, trust me. The more jobs you have the more money you have .
Simple.

Hi dan, im 17 and just started my ppl. luckily my parents are paying for it. However, you could pay in blocks of 10 hours. I dont know if your nearest school do that, but its less money and while your doing your 10 hours, you can be working on getting another grand to get the next 10 hours. Or you could pay as you go for just under £150 and hour. :):):)
Infact if you want every lesson i have i can teach you what i learnt as it will help the both of us. However you will still need to do the hours.
Tom.

Hi
Im steve, started flying when I was 17, from earnings from a Saturday job. Got a few lessons in a month or so. I later applied to the Glen Stuart Flying Scholarship and after shortlisting and interviewing I recieved a PPL scholarship. Im now 18 and have 56 hours, waiting to do my Cross Country flights to qualify for my license.
Anythings possible, you just have to put the effort into it and accept nothing good comes easily, you have to search high and low for routes and ways, and you have to stick at your dreams, go out your way to get there. ;)

Just keep at it, it takes some people a few years to gain a PPL, this can be because of there ability to learn but also down to how much they can afford. I have known people before now to only have one lesson every month or even less in some cases. I admit myself that this is not the ideal way to learn as continuity is the key, however it is achievable. I’m 16 years old and will soon be doing my skills test very shortly after my 17th birthday, I'll admit my parents contributed to a lot of my flying costs, but I also managed to gain a job at my flying school which covers a fair bit of my flying costs as well as getting some free flying along the way with qualified pilots who turn up and want to fly with someone else. I have to admit though, as much as my parents have contributed, I'm damn sure I would have learnt to fly somehow. I am that determined to become a commercial pilot one day that I am sure nothing will come in my way, If I have to work 12 hour shifts for 4 different job as well as selling my belongings on eBay and begging from relatives I will make it to commercial status.
So what I'm trying to say here is, if you really want it, you will do it, like the guys above said, why not try to gain another job alongside your job now, why not begin selling in your spare time on eBay or the likes? That's exactly what I did. The ultimate thing is, if you have to borrow and work so hard now, the rewards in the end are amazing, to fly for a living and to earn a fairly good wage whilst doing it. It's certainly not easy to become a pilot these days, and that’s why only the determined and committed will make it! Beg...Steal...and Borrow! (I must say I do not encourage stealing ha! :))
P.s. Take more care with your spelling!

"BS" is a very astute and determined chap by the look of it. His/her attitude is what will make dreams come true, especially in a job interview.
Attention to detail is important as a pilot. Text-speak/etc implies less good attributes and is not cool. Nevertheless, good luck to all of the posters on this topic.

that's equivalent of about 6.5 per hour. not bad for a 17 year old.

All of whats said above is true. A word of advice is to try and make sure your able to give your flying some continuity. If your struggling to afford to pay for your flying and can only manage one lesson a month then theres every possibility you may not fly for perhaps 2 months because of Wx, money etc.. Although from what you've said you have some kind of aptitude for flying (I too can claim a solo in 8 hours and CPL ME IR issue with the minimum hours required) you will still find it difficult remembering what you did in your last lesson after 6 weeks away.
My reccomendation is find the funds to fly regularly (as suggested above beg, borrow, sell as aproppriate) Reapply for the scholarships (persitence is the key) and I'm sure most of us who post on this forum will be happy to give you any tips or pointers we can.
Best of Luck with it all
Ant
I won't comment on spelling punctuation or grammer as mine is also terrible, fortunately I got a job in aviation with no one noticing!
