In that area, I've used Groeningen, Midden Zeeland, Hoegeveen, Damme and Bremerhaven as Schengen entry points, all very reasonable.
Stopped over once at Groeningen due to weather, and it worked out well, being a short taxi ride from a pleasant town and very helpful airport staff. Damme has accommodation available on the field, subject to availability.
If you don't have Mode S, you'll need to check out the Dutch requirements especially.
Fuel used to be considerably cheaper in Denmark and Sweden, though the gap is now narrowing. Tonder used to be a popular stop just over the Danish border.

Notams are available from AIS if your route covers foreign airspace.
AIPs for all europe can be downloaded from http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadcms/eadsite/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=25&Itemid=3.html you need to register first.
As far as I know only the UK offer free on-line approach plates.
